Business software, built and fixed.

I build and fix the systems small and mid-size businesses run on, and add AI where it actually helps. I use Claude Code daily to move fast, and I review and test every change myself.

Work

Public demos you can run yourself (all of them at demo.oct28th.com), built on a fictional courier company with invented data. Every number here was measured and is in the repo.

Five common production problems reproduced, fixed and measured on a generated database of 600,000 jobs and 2.19M job events.

20 deadlocks to 0. Two concurrent batches went from finishing none of 40,000 jobs to finishing all of them.

A .NET Framework 4.8 WCF service moved to ASP.NET Core with CoreWCF, plus a new REST API with OpenAPI on one shared application layer.

One address changed. The compiled legacy client was pointed at the new host, and its output matched the old service line for line.

The tests replay SOAP traffic recorded from the real service. Breaking the contract on purpose failed 6 of them, which is the point.

Delivery dockets, invoices and booking emails turned into data, with schema validation and a human review queue.

Doubtful documents go to a person. Of 7 sample dockets, invoices and emails, 3 were accepted automatically and 4 went to review, including a wrong GST line. Runs offline with recorded model responses.

Experience

15 years of C#/.NET on logistics systems that cannot go down, including for a New Zealand courier and logistics operator.

  • Scale

Backend architecture owner for a multi-tenant transport management platform moving over 2,000 courier jobs a day, peaking above 5,300.

  • Schema

A SQL Server schema of 1,700+ stored procedures, evolved through 1,600+ tracked migrations.

  • Deadlocks

Diagnosed recurring SQL Server deadlocks under bulk upload and fixed them with a targeted batch-commit retry.

  • Migration

Migrated a WCF-era customer integration API to .NET 8, keeping the legacy bindings live.

  • Rewrite

Led a ground-up rewrite of a route-planning system on .NET 10 and TypeScript, verified with Playwright tests.

  • Delivery

Moved CI from Azure DevOps to GitLab CI and containerised services with Docker across eight repositories.

How I work

  1. Written scope and fixed price first

You know what you are getting and what it costs before I start. If the scope changes, we agree it in writing first.

  2. Claude Code for speed, me for judgement

I use Claude Code daily because it makes me faster. Every change is reviewed and tested by me before it reaches you.

  3. A clear handover

You get the code, the scripts and notes your team can follow, so you are not dependent on me afterwards.

  4. Sydney time zone

My working day overlaps Australia, New Zealand and US evenings.

Tell me what is slow, old or stuck

A short description of the system and the problem is enough to start. I will tell you honestly whether I am the right fit.
